Actually Montaj I think this is a follow-up to another story by the same artist, the brown-haired girl is female from the start of this story but the change was covered (albeit between panels) in the previous story, that character having started out that story male.

It is a bit hard to piece together even there, but there are clues, like certain mannerisms and the glasses...
